What Is Deposition in Chemistry?What is a deposition in chemistry? Well, deposition is the process of creating a material that is not a liquid but rather solid.Some materials will actually form into a solid before they are actually totally liquid. For example, a solution of water can be given off by a bottle cap, this will form into a solid and then can be poured back into the bottle.The process will still start with a chemical reaction and create a solid. At this point there are three phases involved; the solid, the liquid and the gaseous state.Depending on what material is being studied, there may be two or more phases involved in the material. This means that there is a chemical relationship between each phase and all of these are referred to as phases of the material.In some materials the phases are discrete, which means that there is one phase of the material. But for example, if we were talking about aluminum foil this would be considered a discrete phase of the material. There is no relation between the first and second phase of the material.However, other materials have to deal with larger crystal structures so for example in crystals of graphite these are made up of crystalline materials. So the crystals of graphite do not conform to a specific structure, which makes them a phase.
